GARDENS ABOVE
THE CITY

Located in downtown Washington, DC, this comprehensive office renovation transformed a dated building into a dynamic workplace spanning six floors. C+RLA was engaged to design interior planting throughout the building and four rooftop terraces, creating a cohesive connection between the workplace and the outdoors.
Each terrace was designed with a distinct identity inspired by the adjacent interior spaces—from “The Park,” an active setting for recreation and office gatherings, to “The Secret Garden,” a quiet retreat for focused work and conversation. Additional terraces provide flexible spaces for dining, entertaining, and taking in views of the Capitol and surrounding city.

Custom planters, lush planting, integrated seating, water features, and carefully selected furnishings soften the architecture and create a series of distinct indoor-outdoor experiences. Throughout the building, interior planting brings color, texture, and life to workspaces, cafeterias, stairwells, and gathering areas.
Together, the landscapes transform the workplace into a collection of vibrant spaces that encourage connection, collaboration, and a daily relationship with nature.
