IMPRESSIONIST GARDEN

A living canvas, this garden draws inspiration from the Impressionist movement—where light, texture, and seasonality shift with each passing moment. Designed and refined over a decade by C+RLA, the space reflects the evolving life of a growing family. What began as a playful backyard has matured into a layered oasis of dappled shade, lush plantings, and fluid transitions—where every corner offers a new perspective, much like brushstrokes in a painting. Today, the space includes a swimming pool, a dining terrace, dappled shade, and lush plantings woven throughout.

To resolve the grade change in the back garden, a new corten steel wall was introduced, forming upper and lower planting beds and articulating the transitions between terraces. Extensions of stone retaining walls along the perimeter help manage the site’s topography, while elevating plantings above the pool level. This vertical layering creates a feeling of complete immersion, surrounding swimmers with greenery.

The variety of scenes and uses thoughtfully embedded into this compact space invite the homeowners and their family to fully experience and enjoy every corner of the garden.
